Ravi Walther Coote, born Ahluwalia, son of an Indian father and a German mother, grew up in the multicultural district of Cologne-Nippes. He discovered his interest in computers early on and made his first programming experiences on a Commodore Amiga 500 Plus in the BASIC programming language.
After graduating from high school and training as a state-certified electrical engineering assistant, I completed an interdisciplinary master’s degree in computational linguistics, computer science and phonetics (focus: digital speech processing/human-machine communication) in Bonn.
Due to my inclination towards electrical engineering and robotics, I did my thesis in the field of robotics at the Fraunhofer Institute FKIE. I worked there as a research assistant, mainly as a software developer in various research projects.
Since June/2017 I have been working as a software developer in the mechanical engineering industry with a focus on embedded C++ and GUI development as well as backend/frontend web development.
As a part-time job, I help pupils and students to cope with their programming tasks, which I really enjoy.
How it began
In 2019 I started to work as freelancer for machinery companies in Germany. Then, and also during the past vew years, I realized that younger people are not any more exposed to older computers like, e.g., the C64, the A500, and Atari PCs. I think, these older Compuers have had given us a better change to dive into programming, because they were not so easy to use like the modern devices that came up, e.g., the Smart Phone Devices based on Android and iOS.
What have we learned from the corona crisis? Among other things, we have a different perspective on topics such as home office and mobile working, but also on digital learning and distance learning.
